Helping the AR Cloud Cross The Chasm
How do you take an advanced concept like the AR Cloud and help businesses understand how to use it? Demoing occlusion, physics and 3D scanning isn't enough. Today, the AR Cloud is embraced by the innovators, but needs to cross the chasm to early adopters reach beyond developers to the CEOs and product managers in order to make it into mainstream products. How do you take a highly technical product and bring it to market? In this talk, you will hear lessons learned from 6D.ai in its first year of go-to-market strategies and see early demos of what's required for all of us to help move the market toward broader AR Cloud adoption.

Convergence: How the World Will Be Painted with Data
This is a historic moment. We are on the cusp of a new generation of mobile computing. Latency-free 5G broadband networks, AI and XR will converge in the next five years to change the world as we know it. Our devices will change dramatically and change us in ways no one can fully predict. Convergence tells the story of Augmented Reality, a new technology that’s seeping into every smartphone and every workplace. But the smartphone is just the beginning. We will soon wonder how we put up with its miserable form for so long. In this presentation of key ideas from his new book, author and Forbes columnist Charlie Fink will discuss how the convergence will lead to head-worn, interoperable AR/VR glasses and, ultimately, to wearable, invisible, computing. The book uses a kind of AR called "marker AR," to allow readers to use their smartphone to bring pages to life in surprising and entertaining ways to illustrate how the world, and everyone it, will be painted with data. More than a book about technology, this is about an evolutionary change in humankind.

So what will we be collecting, tracking and storing in the future? What does it mean to get informed consent and who should actually own all this highly personal info about you? Come listen to an Analytics Expert and Privacy Advocate talk about what data is out there and how it can be used to alter your reality…

Deploying at Scale: What can the Entertainment Sector Teach Our Ecosystem About Strapping People into Virtual Reality
Worldwide digital spending will hit $8.9 billion for Gaming alone in September. A piece of that pie is down to the Virtual Reality HMD proliferation already well over 15M devices. Within the next couple years it is expected to triple in size to over 50M, yet the majority of general public still have never done VR. The clear ROI winners here are Location-Based/Out-of-Home content providers that are enticing mainstream consumers to satisfy their VR curiosity. This is demonstrated by the high levels of growth, with consumer spend expected to reach $809 million by 2022.

What does all this growth mean for deploying at scale? Our panel will discuss what it means to expose, educate and deliver content to millions of users/players to Virtual Reality. Discover the best practices from experts in the Location-Based Entertainment sector and hear about challenges and platforms in actually what is a strictly a B2B endeavour with venues, parks and operators globally!

AR/VR Development on AWS
What is your vision for your AR/VR application? Do you want to create immersive, smart AR/VR applications without needing to hire teams of specialized experts? That is, do you want to use Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence to make sense of the application's environment? Or use Natural Language Processing to create voice-driven interfaces? Do you need to be able to deploy your application globally across multiple AR, VR and mobile devices within minutes without your customers needing to download an app?

In this session you'll learn how customers across the globe are using AWS services to create rich, interactive AR/VR experiences that can talk, listen and understand. Traditionally, such applications would first require the development of the underlying technologies, such as speech recognition, AI/ML and cross-platform immersive 3D deployment. Now these technologies can be leveraged as services, allowing you to develop your immersive AR/VR experience in days instead of years

Creating an effective virtual reality cabin crew training system. Process, design, and effectiveness.
The top priority of commercial airline cabin crews is the safety of passengers. On most major US carriers, the crew is required to know how to operate emergency exits and doors on a variety of aircraft as well as understand the location of all emergency equipment used in the fleet.  Many times, during training, the low availability of real aircraft or physical simulators creates a condition of a limited number of touch points that the crew has with doors prior to being evaluated for readiness.  This reduced training capability leads to students making errors both in final evaluations and during actual flight operations, which are very costly to an airline.  This presentation discusses the training needs, stakeholders, and design of the Cabin Crew Virtual Readiness Trainer, a VR training suite designed to target errors in the most critical cabin crew operations. The results of a case study conducted at a major US airline demonstrate the capability of VR training to reduce live evaluation errors from 25% to 2%.

How to deploy Unity-based VR training at global scale
You are convinced that Unity-based VR training will be huge? This session for both corporates and content creators will answer the following burning questions: How to create 50 VR training modules at reasonable cost with Unity without needing to code? How to use developer time efficiently and write reusable code in order customize the training experience? How to deploy all existing VR training modules within the organization to increase user adoption? How to address the transition from desktop based VR to standalone VR in this context? We will answer these questions with examples from Volkswagen Group and other enterprise customers.

The Internet of Virtuous Tools
Conceptually, the context for any AR application cannot be internal to the experience — it is not like running a spreadsheet app within a window within a desktop within a monitor. The context for any AR application is the user’s external world which is likely to be very chaotic, very dynamic and very real. So instead of asking what kinds of content we want to create for the user, we started out by asking what the user will want to do in their world. In other words, we see ourselves as tool makers and our AR platform as a way for people to use both virtual versions of real-world tools, as well as AR tools that has not been imagined yet. To be clear, the kind of AR tools that we’re imagining is not like software tools … they’re more like physical tools, each with its own shapes and forms, each designed to achieve a specific result. However, instead of being made of atoms, these AR tools will be made of pixels, polygons and code.
